89.1% DECREASE IN SEAL-RELATED CALLS TO SDPD WHEN CASA BEACH IS CLOSED DURING PUPPING SEASON

(January 2019) The Seal Conservancy submitted a Public Records Request to the San Diego Police Department to obtain information about the number of seal-related calls to the police. After analyzing the data, we found that there was an 89.1% reduction in the number of seal-related calls to SDPD during the pupping seasons when the beach was closed (2015-2018) compared to prior pupping seasons (2011-2014) during which there was no seasonal closure of Casa Beach. The data is available for viewing here.
